METHODS

There are a variety of methods used in general surgery that can be categorized depending on the surgical approach and tools used. The main types of methods used include:

Open Surgery

Open surgery is the traditional form of surgery where a large incision is made to access the area of interest. This method provides direct visualization and access to the organs or tissues being treated.

Minimally Invasive Surgery

MIS involves smaller incisions and the use of specialized instruments and techniques to perform surgery with less trauma to the body. This category includes several specific methods. At Gunnison Valley Hospital we perform laparoscopic surgery. This means that several small incisions are made, and a laparoscope (a thin tube with a camera) is inserted to guide the surgery.

Endoscopy Surgery –

Endoscopy surgery involves the use of an endoscope (a flexible tube with a camera) inserted through natural body openings or small incisions to diagnose or treat conditions.
